Japanese Medical Anecdotes of the Late 18th and Early 19th Centuries

Until the last quarter of the 19th century Japan was virtually a closed country—Nagasaki was its only seaport of entry and trading took place only with China and with the Dutch. Illustrations found in the Hiroshima University Institute for the History of Medicine and in the Siebold Memorial Museum in Nagasaki provide interesting insights into these early years.
