There has previously been a Charm Against Nightmares (page 299) but there is also a god who cures nightmares. The gilt-bronze statue (left) of Yumechigai-Kannon—believed to have the power to change nightmares into pleasant dreams—dates from the 7th century and can be seen in the oldest wooden temple in the world, the Höryüchi built more than 1300 years ago.
