ABSTRACT

When Napoleon and death are mentioned together it is usually to consider the possibility that the first Emperor Napoleon was murdered in exile on the island of St Helena and that he died from accidental or homicidal arsenic poisoning. Opinion as to the technique of administration varies, and recently 1 a theory has been proposed that the arsenic contained in the wallpaper was the culprit. Earlier 2 , the blame has been mentioned in relation to an English secret agent, rat poison and cooking pots made of metal containing arsenic.
