ABSTRACT

This is a disease reported in British Medical Journal and refers to a 21 year old builder’s labourer who until three months before being seen at the hospital had been a full-time drummer in a punk rock band, leading an irregular existence which ended when he ignited his flat with a cigarette. He smoked 60 cigarettes a day and had taken drugs since he was 16, often swallowing them with beer. As part of his act he used to fill his mouth with turpentine or paraffin which he would then blow out and ignite. He also occasionally inhaled powdered drugs such as cocaine through a rolled-up pound note.
