ABSTRACT
The astronomer Fritz Zwicky (1898–1974) was once engaged in a conversation with a fundamentalist minister regarding the origin of the universe. The minister said that the universe began when God said, 'Let there be light.' Zwicky, with a thoughtful expression, replied that he could 'buy' this explanation only if God had said 'Let there be light and a magnetic field.
