ABSTRACT
In this chapter the development, status, and industrial use of Aspergillus nidulans and A. niger expression-secretion systems for recombinant proteins will be described, with particular emphasis on a system based on the ethanol utilization regulon of A. nidulans. In the work described, a laboratory strain that was not preselected for any parameter of industrial performance has been converted by the application of relatively simple molecular biology into a competitive industrial production system.
