ABSTRACT

A layered rock possesses obvious anisotropic mechanical behavior, and its shear strength should be a function of inclination with respect to the foliated planes. For this the first author suggested an empirical expression of C, ϕ for layered rock. Now this expression is compared with a test result made by the former researchers and a good agreement between both can be seen. On the basis of this the constitutive relationship of a transversely isotropic medium and Mohr-Coulomb’s criterion in which C, ϕ vary with directions are employed, and a relative 3-D elasto-plastic FEM code is developed. Taking an underground opening as the calculation object, the numerical analyses are carried out by using the FEM code for two cases of transversely isotropic rock and isotropic rock respectively. Finally, some conclusions are obtained according to this research.
