ABSTRACT

Ground movements are inevitably caused by bored tunnel construction in soft ground. In urban areas their potential effects on buildings are an important in the construction of tunnels.

This paper investigates experimental study of a circular tunnel with the analogue Taylor-Schneebeli material consisting of metallic rods of 3 to 5 mm diameter. This work is to obtain a better simulation of soil movements due to construction of shallow tunnels, dug with pressurized shield tunneling boring machine, inducing in the soil mass, successive deconfining, reconfining cycles. These different cycles are due to overcutting, to the conicity of the boring machine, to grouting and to grout consolidation. For these reasons, we decided to reproduce these different phases with a small-scale two-dimensional model.
