ABSTRACT

Excavation by blasting is a technique most widely used in tunneling and other underground construction sites. Dynamic pressures produced by blasting may damage an area around the tunnel. It is therefore critical to obtain accurate data of damages, both for safety management of excavation and evaluation of long-term mechanical stability of the underground structure. This paper discusses a compact vertical seismic prospecting system developed, aiming at creation of a system that facilitates measurement tasks, and that offers useful measurement data. The application results of the system are also presented, demonstrating its effectiveness in the management of bedrock excavation.
