ABSTRACT
Recently, techniques of shield tunnel construction have been progressing remarkably and conquering many severe conditions. However, it is the present state that design of segment only seems to be on the starting point of progressing from the traditional method based on experiences, and it cannot follow in progress of constructional techniques. On account of the well-balanced progress between construction and design in shield tunneling method, an innovation of design technique is required. This paper shows an outline of the shield tunnel technique at present, behavior of shield tunnels in site and subjects for its design.
