ABSTRACT

In recent times, the vision metrology techniques using digital cameras have been widely used in precise inspection of industrial materials. The present paper discusses the application of this method to tunnel convergence measurement. While the vision metrology is an established technology in principle, many practical problems need to be solved before it can be applied to civil engineering problems. The experiment was carried out by applying the convergence measurement to the 15 m length of tunnel of 7m diameter. The results were compared with those measured with the conventional Total Station technique. The standard deviation of the difference in the measurements with the above two techniques was about 0.58 mm. Thus, the accuracy of the vision metrology was verified for practical use. We also discuss problems to be solved in putting the system to practical use.
