ABSTRACT

The long face reinforcement method has been developed for the stabilization of mountain tunneling face. This technique uses “casing-injection” type long tubes of glass-fiber reinforced plastics. It is more excellent in ease of work, cost performance and effectiveness than the conventional face piling and long steel pipe forepiling. Demonstrating tests on site indicated a great work efficiency, and measurements of stress generated in tubes showed the effectiveness of the developed method. In addition, by actual construction, measurement and analysis, the effects of the this method were verified, such as control capability of preceding loosening.
