ABSTRACT

The primary crusher and its conveyor tunnel are built in 1976 for processing of copper in Sar Cheshmeh near Kerman, Iran. The conveyor tunnel approximately 5 meters by 2.5 meters by 115 meters long will extend horizontally from the bottom of the crusher north ward to the toe of the fill slope. Right after the construction of the tunnel a few horizontal and one diagonal cracks were appeared inside the tunnel.

The slope stability analysis with static and dynamic loads shows factor of safety above 1.5. The analysis of the tunnel shows there is no deficiency in the design of the structural part of the tunnel. The analysis shows that the rock foundations under tunnel with RQD less tan 50 and washing of fines through drainage system not support these loads and required to stabilized these highly weathered rocks. This can be done by the grouting cement under the tunnel.
