ABSTRACT

The research project carried out for long years in these laboratories proved that it is possible to produce a mixture coke for metallurgical purposes from a non-coking coal and Zonguldak hardcoal with the application of a new coking process. The Soma-Eynez coal could be mixed with the Zonguldak hardcoal upto 50% according to the Formed-Coke process for the metallurgical coke. In this study the coking temperature and time were varied in order to determine the effect of these parameters on Formed-Coke strength. The coking experiments were repeated at 800° C, 900° C, and 1000° C coking temparatures and for 3 or 4 hours of coking time. In these studies we obtained the most suitable formed-coke at 900° C coking temparature and 3 hours coking time with the 50/50 % Soma-Eynez lignite and Zonguldak hardcoal.
