ABSTRACT

Coke breeze is the main fuel used in the sintering process in Egyptian Iron and Steel Co. The price of coke breeze increases from one year to another and in this year the price of coke breeze is 475 L.E. The amount of coke breeze used in sintering plant of Egypt 105 tons, and has a price of 4.75x 107 L.E. (1.39x 107$). Also the coal which is required for producing metallurgical coke and coke breeze is imported from outside of Egypt. Therefore it is beneficial to lower the amount of coke breeze required for the Egyptian sintering plant, by using other local fuel, thus the petroleum coke was investigated, because the cost of petroleum coke is ~ 50 L.E. Thus in this work the replacement of coke breeze by petroleum coke was studied and the results obtained can be summarized as follows:-

The amount of ready made sinter and its strength increased by 12.4% and 9.3% respectively when 40% of the coke breeze was replaced with petroleum coke.

The maximum productivity of the sintering machine and the productivity at blast furnace yard were attained with 40% of coke breeze was replaced with the petroleum coke in the raw mixture and this increase was 28.25% and 41.4% respectively.

As the amount of coke breeze replaced with the petroleum coke increased the reducibility of the sinter increased..
