ABSTRACT

The process for the selective extraction of separate osmium (VI) sulfite complexes with trioctylamine (TOA) has been studied. It has been determined that a decrease in the extent of recovering every of osmium (VI) sulfite complexes [OSO2(SO3)2(H2O)2]2\ [OsO2(SO3)4–x(H2O)x]−6+2x, and [OSO2(SO3)4–x(HSO3)x]n6+x in the organic phase is associated with the competitive extraction of sulfuric acid. It has been demonstrated that the extraction of osmium (VI) sulfite complexes with TOA occurs by the mechanism of externally sphere replacement irrespective of the composition and structure of these complexes.
