ABSTRACT

This study concerns the application of DATAMINE software for planning the extraction of an ornamental granite located in Northeast of Brazil. The necessary input data consists of topography of the quarry and structural features of the rock mass, including joints, dikes, veins, faults, inclusions, and alterations, as well as size of blocks and quarrying method. From the quarry plan it has been possible to calculate the overall recovery of blocks, the volume overburden and waste rock from trimming and fragmentation. The importance of geologic and geotechnical factors for planning ornamental granite quarries is emphasized in the conclusions.
