ABSTRACT

Numerical methods are increasingly applied for modelling of jointed rock mass behaviour, with more or less success. However, often those who are carrying out such analysis are not familiar enough with all characteristics of geological environment and specificity of its interaction with various natural processes and human activities. Also, it is not rare that those engineers who do know well geological environment are not acquainted enough with capabilities and limitations of numerical methods. This paper attempts to contribute to better understanding of the matter in question and to closer connection of these two aspects of the same geotechnical problem.
