ABSTRACT

R. N. (Bob) Shoffner was the keynote speaker at the banquet during the Colloquium on the Manipulation of the Avian Genome, He brought to the audience a living history of the changes and evolution of the poultry breeding industry that spanned 50 years of participation, observation, contribution, and leadership. He has served as a Research Assistant, Instructor, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, Professor, Acting Head, and Professor Emeritus at the University of Minnesota, has been a Fulbright Scholar in Australia, and was a Visiting Professor at the University of Texas. He has served as a consultant to many of the public and private poultry breeding organizations in the United States and to academic and research institutions in Canada, France, India, and Brazil. He is the recipient of the Ranelious Award, the National Turkey Federation Award, and the Merck Research Award, has served as President of the Poultry Science Association, and is a Fellow of the Poultry Science Association and the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
