ABSTRACT

Poultry-breeding companies historically have been involved in the development and application of new genetic technology for industrial purposes. Comprehensive challenges demand comprehensive solutions, and the few remaining breeders in the industry will assess the potential for novel methods of manipulating the avian genome to improve their individual competitiveness and the marketability of their products. However, meager funds available from the breeding industry for speculative research ultimately aimed at lower food cost to the consumer will necessitate continued strong public funding.
