ABSTRACT

Slope movements of landslide type (Nemčok et al. 1972) are the most significant natural hazard in Košice city and its surroundings. Their negative impact on engineering structures especially on the eastern periphery of Košice (Furča housing estate, Heringeš – Krásna nad Hornádom| site) during last 15 – 20 years is well known. Costs of investigation, remedial and reconstruction works amount to millions of crowns every year. A couple of engineering geological maps on the scale of 1:25000 and 1:2000 of the Košice region was prepared as a part of International Slovak – Luxembourg project “Košice – biotic and abiotic component of the environment”. A landslide hazard map prepared according to these maps is described in this contribution.
