ABSTRACT
This paper discusses issues pertaining to risk assessment related to landslides in sensitive clays and other soft sediments with an approach based on a geotechnical characterisation considering the following landslide stages: pre-failure, failure and post-failure. The assessment of landslide risk or the probability of failure is discussed in the light of some recent observations made on soft clays.
