ABSTRACT

Much research has dealt with the improvement of the mechanical properties of bone cements by incorporating various fillers such as carbon fibres, Kevlar, polyethylene fibres or metal wires. Sometimes, these fillers are made of hydroxyapatite 1,2 with the aim of giving biological properties to the cement. Unfortunately, these fillers do not increase the mechanical properties to a great extent. On the contrary, a decrease is often observed. This is probably due to the lack of adequate bonding between filler and matrix.
