ABSTRACT

This chapter explains the experimental procedure used to evaluate the bond strength. It presents two series of results. The first series deals with the comparison of bond strength between ordinary and high strength concrete. The second series shows the influence of several constitutive parameters on bond strength. The chapter also presents the results got in comparisons with the values reached in the case of ordinary concrete. A considerable amount of research has been carried out on the bond between reinforcement and concrete. The appearance and the propagation of the bond damage decreases with increasing embedded length. The appearance and the propagation of the damage seem not to vary in relation to the condensed silica fume (CSF) percentage. The improvement of the density of the microstructure of high strength concrete due to the addition of CSF may be considered as a suitable explanation of the positive effects.
