ABSTRACT

The use of pressure-sensitive adhesives in more recent medical applications is described. The performance of such adhesives in contact with human skin is difficult to relate to the standard tests carried out on pressure-sensitive adhesives because of the complexity of the adherend and the visco-elastic behavior of the adhesive Dynamic measurement of the mechanical properties of the adhesive is very promising in the prediction of adhesive performance and is important in evaluating and com-pounding pressure-sensitive adhesives for medical and other applications. Test data of various medical adhesives is shown and compared to that of adhesives intended for other applications.
