ABSTRACT

The most basic of all weed control methods is prevention, that is, those measures taken to forestall the introduction and spread of weeds. Such measures include production of weed-free seeds, cleaning of weed-infested seed, and proper quarantine and regulation of contaminated crop seed. In this modern day, planting of contaminated crop seed continues to be a major source of spread of noxious weeds. In this way, weeds are spread from continent to continent, region to region, and farm to farm. Dissemination of weeds by this means is largely preventable; only common sense and diligence are needed to ensure success (Day, 1972).
