ABSTRACT

This chapter includes an overview of vadose-zone modeling with a summary of vadose-zone flow and transport processes, the approaches taken to model them, and a literature review of available models. It is intended to introduce readers with limited knowledge of vadose zone flow and transport processes to the problems confronted by modelers, and to provide a starting point for understanding how they are being attacked. The subject is a fast-evolving one with new approaches and codes being developed and amended continuously, so the table of models discussed and presented at the end of this summary is not complete. Most models currently in common usage are listed, and the table will assist readers in evaluating and accessing them.
