ABSTRACT

The role of flow visualization in agriculture is similar to that in industry except that the objects of visualization are mostly biological and natural phenomena. Almost all methods that have been used in various applications are employed in this field. In the experiments on agricultural problems, however, so many parameters are involved in the phenomena investigated that the initial and boundary conditions are not definitely determined. Flow visualization techniques have wide areas of application in the field of agricultural meteorology. Most of the techniques are the same as those applied to general meteor-ology; the difference is that the targets exist near the earth’s surfaces. Flow visualization studies on agricultural buildings have two major aspects. One is the role of windbreaks with reference to the object and area of protection. Another point of consideration is how to avoid and protect the agricultural facilities from wind damage, which is a serious problem for small, simple, and light buildings such as greenhouses.
