ABSTRACT

Information Technology will have an important role to play in geotechnical education and training, and the developments to date clearly demonstrate its potential. A significant number of computer-aided learning packages have already been developed for geotechnical engineering. The materials developed fall into the following categories: Reference materials; Tutorial style activities; Animations or interactive demonstrations; Knowledge-based systems; Simulations; Virtual site visits and Games. Some of these are stand-alone programs that will run on a local computer, whereas increasingly more materials are being mounted on the world wide web. A full listing of nearly forty CAL packages/materials is provided, with website addresses where available.
