ABSTRACT

Matruh sub-basin is located northwest of Qattara dipression in the norther part of the western desert of Egypt. This basin has special importance because of its position with respect to many oil fields scattered nearby of it. Well log information represented by resistivity, sonic, density and bottom hole temperature gathered from four wells are combined together in order to define the most proper intervals through the Pre-Aptian section that can be considered as mature source rock. Only eight shale intervals install wells with total thickness of 72m are considered as mature source rock.
