ABSTRACT

The composition of the assumed Cenomanian continental vertebrate fauna of northern Sudan shows striking similarities to the terrestrial vertebrate association of Coniacian/Santonian Ibeceten Formation of Niger. Both faunal assemblages originate from quite similar palecological and paleoclimatical conditions, correspond in the occurrence of most continental taxa, but clearly differ on generic and specific levels. Due to different stratigraphic positions, both localities represent the so far unique example of chronological spots of nonmarine Late Cretaceous vertebrate faunas in Africa.
