ABSTRACT
At the Egyptian margin of the Red Sea, the Pan-African (late Proterozoic) basement is subdivided by NW-SE trending sinistral shear zones. The central part of the Eastern Desert, bordered by the Duwi Shear zone in the north and the Hafafit Shear zone in the south, comprise both island-arc related igneous rocks and large ophiolithic segments.
