ABSTRACT

This chapter presents an analysis of the work of Beppo Levi on the complex function theory and in geometry. Levi’s work in geometry was definitely more extensive than that on the complex function theory and is certainly generally better known. After presenting a listing of Levi's studies on the complex function theory, the chapter reviews each research work listed. It provides a detailed presentation of some simple results arrived at by Levi on the theory of several complex variables as published when he was a professor in Bologna. The chapter includes a listing of Levi’s works in geometry and examines Levi’s works in algebraic geometry, pointing out their genesis and the acceptance which these received when Levi was still living. It provides an overall view of other Levi’s works in geometry with particular emphasis on his research in foundations of geometry.
