ABSTRACT
This paper gives a brief overview of the disasters caused by landslides to communication and transportation systems, factories, mines, farmlands and water conservancy facilities. It also refers to research works done by Chinese scholars and engineers in classification and distribution of landslides, as well as investigation, prospecting, observation, testing and stability analysis. The concluding part of the paper is devoted to a brief reference to landslide control measures during the last forty years.
