ABSTRACT
The paper describes the importance of non-linearities regarding the material law for soil and soft rock in the engineering practice. Numerical modelling results regarding the ground behaviour are shown on two examples: an excavation, supported by a sheet pile, in an analog granular material and a near-surface tunnel with shotcrete lining in soft rock.
