ABSTRACT

An iterative procedure is proposed to determine the boundary conditions for a non-linear model of a rock mass, based on stress measurements. Previous information is accounted for, so that boundary conditions can be updated at the various stages of a project, as soon as new information becomes available. The application to the 2-D plane strain model of the Underground Research Laboratory (URL) of Atomic Energy of Canada Limited, shows the fast convergence rate of the procedure and the good match between the measured and calculated stresses.
