ABSTRACT

This chapter utilizes the results to derive the best linear unbiased estimators (BLUE) of the parameters of one- and two-parameter exponential distributions as explicit linear functions of the observed order statistics. These are derived for the Type-II right censored, doubly censored, multiply censored, progressively right censored, and general progressively censored situations. The chapter briefly discusses the asymptotic best linear unbiased estimation of the exponential mean based on k optimally selected order statistics. It describes some examples to illustrate the method of estimation. Several other issues relating to the asymptotic BLUE based on k optimally selected order statistics, such as the estimation of population quantiles and tests of hypotheses, have been discussed by numerous authors.
