ABSTRACT
The paper is intended to present a prenormative research project (PREC8) currently being developed by a network of 19 research institutions in support of the Eurocode 8 for seismic design. The objective of the project is to contribute to the improvement of the Code at the end of its present Prestandard (ENV) status and is divided in four topics related to reinforced concrete structures, infilled frames, bridges and foundations and retaining walls. A brief presentation of the main features of EC8 and of the project PREC8 is made followed by a more detailed account of its topic regarding reinforced concrete structures.
