ABSTRACT
Chapter 2 listed measurable environmental factors likely to be affected by mining and characterized observable changes in these factors. Using the headings introduced in Chapter 2, this chapter describes how activities involved in mining and mineral processing bring about these changes. More detail about impacts and remediation methods for specific minerals and circumstances is given in the following chapters and in case histories. Such topics as the effects of asbestos fibres and other mineral dusts in mines are not considered, the health of mine workers being beyond the scope of this book.
