ABSTRACT

Injection blow-molding is a two-step process for producing completely finished plastic containers. In the first step, the plastic melt is injection molded into a cavity where the parison is formed. The neck finish of the container as well as the shape of the parison are molded 364as the plastic under pressure is injected through a gate, around a core pin, and into the preform cavity. This injection-molding process is distinguished from conventional injection molding in that temperature conditioning of the parison, i.e., cooling the parison to a temperature needed for expanding into the finished shape, takes place at this stage. This process is also known as the conditioned injection blow process (CIBM).
