ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the different corrosion phenomena taking place in the intermittently operated vehicles. The most effective protection against corrosion is the use of protective lubricants. However, protective-lubricating oils are suited not only for keeping the vehicles in the state of ready to use but also for protection against corrosion during storage, transportation and operation. Protection in the state of ready for use is the type of anticorrosion treatment applies for vehicles which are parked for shorter or longer periods but may be available for use at any time. Demand in protective-lubricating engine oils and gear oils has been growing lately and the range of users is also on the increase. The protective lubricants of the vehicle industry have been developed so that they should be compatible with the engine oils and gear oils of the known brands available on the international market, and if necessary they can also be used for replenishment.
