ABSTRACT

Although the advance of technology in many work areas has led to mechanization and rationalization, it still seems unfeasible to ever do completely without manpower (with ‘power’ meant in a literal sense). That means that humans will always be more than only an information processing element in a man-machine system. A work system, however, can only lead to optimal results if technical elements and human factors are coordinated. The realization of ergonomic knowledge in work design is of great importance, as unattractive jobs do not pay in the long run under either economic or human aspects.
