Outline and concept of new Japanese seismic code

Japanese Building Standard Law was revised in 1998. The highlight related to the seismic engineering is the instruction of the performance-based provision. This paper describes the seismic performance requirements, design response spectrum of input earthquake motions and basic verification method based on response values and limit values.
