ABSTRACT
This paper presents a cell-phone based wireless information system and its application for intelligent prevention of ignition of fires following earthquakes. Besides the severe ground shaking, fires induced by earthquakes are usually the major causes of human casualties and properties losses. Ground information facilities may be damaged during earthquakes. So, application of wireless information technology becomes more important for earthquake hazard mitigation. Satellite, TCP/IP network-interface based Internet and cell-phone are existing technologies of telecommunications. Results showed that the cellphone based wireless information system developed by InfraTech, Inc (CPBWI) is an applicable, effective and costless system, which can be widely used for earthquake hazard data transmission.
