ABSTRACT

In this paper, the optimum and simulation for a semi-active control system based on the magneto-rheological fluid damper (MRFD) are performed. The optimal distribution of the control devices on the structure is systematically investigated, and the simulated analysis for a tall building excited by El-Centro earthquake is studied when a passive control system based on MRFD or a semi-active control system based on MRFD is installed on the building respectively. The research results provide a powerful reference for the design and application of the semi-active control system based on MRFD to control the seismic responses of tall buildings.
