ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT: This paper describes an investigation of the water purification action by porous media subjected to infiltration of polluted water. Percolation tests of diatomite, zeolite, charcoal and other materials by polluted waters were conducted using columns with water content and electrical conductivity sensors. The indices of chemical oxygen demand (COD), pH, total phosphorus (T-P), total nitrogen (T-N) were examined through the percolation process of the column. As a result of the tests, the effectiveness of porous media for water purification was shown to be satisfactory.
