ABSTRACT

Several cavities were made on two types of graphite (Table 1) using different operating parameters (laser scanning speed, pulse frequency, penetration depth) to evaluate their influence, on both the material removal rate and the surface roughness (Figures 2 and 3). Other important technological parameter is the degree of overlap of individual laser pulses (Figure 4), given by the following equation:

where OD is the degree of overlap (%), Vs the scanning speed (mm/s), f the frequency (kHz) and D the spot diameter (μm). Figure 5 illustrates the overlap effect.Figure 1. Laser beam manufacturing processes.
