ABSTRACT

In Sillem & Wiersma (2008), a model is constructed that can be used to show how research into (new) citizens warning systems can be done in such a way that a judgment can be made about the effectiveness of this new warning system. The minimum requirement is therefore that it covers all issues that are of importance for people to be self-reliant in an emergency, as this is the purpose of the warning system. The model is called the contextual human information processing model for warning citizens and it tries to show the influences on self-reliance in terms of the interactions between cognitions, affective states and situational variables.
