The arrangement of strain gauges is shown in Figure 3. Strain gauges are placed on three shear reinforcing bars with 150 mm interval from the base of the column part of a specimen in the zone where shear cracks are expected. The position of these three shear

reinforcing bars is the same for all specimens. The length of the protection covering for the strain gauges is around 30 mm.The strain gauges are also placed on the longitudinal reinforcing bars in the zone at the base part of the column in order to determine the yielding of the longitudinal reinforcing bars.
