ABSTRACT

The limited studies indicate that WABC analysis both experimental as well as analytical have been largely ignored. There are no clear recommendations regarding the flow of forces at and near the connection, configuration and, drift levels that these connections are capable of sustaining. These gap areas are the objectives of the present study, namely (i) to understand the flow of forces at and near the weak-axis connection from the beam to the column flanges, (ii) to identify and locate the problem areas and the possible causes, (iii) to propose the rectification measures for the problem zones through modified connection configuration, (iv) to make a comparison in terms of the effectiveness of the force flow path of the proposed connection configuration with the existing prevalent connection configuration.
